So, gland--what's this character you're talking about now? I was thinking of Swamp Thing.

It is exactly Swamp Thing. Both The Green and the Rot are even mentioned by name in this issue.

YES! Alan Scott is Earth 2's Swamp Thing! And Grundy is the avatar of the Gray?!
I'm totally intrigued.

So if Alan is the "Green" as the Earth 2 analog to Swamp Thing, and Grundy is the "Grey"...does that mean Grundy can be compared to the current DCNU's "The Rot"?

The comparisons are there to be sure, but I kind of saw Alan as an analog to the Life entity in some respects and Grundy as an analog to Nekron. Mostly because Grundy really LOOKS like Nekron....

Alec Holland was chosen by The Green, the source of all plant life, to be its avatar and champion, and was granted all of its strength. Tweak that slightly, with a different kind of makeover, and you have Alan's origin.

When Grundy's voiceover starts, his first words are "The Green has found its champion", and then later says "I take the form of life anew...from death, from rot". The Green and The Rot are to Swamp Thing and that family of characters what the Emotional Spectrum are to the Lanterns. Those terms mean something in the DC Universe. And considering the way it's all been played up in both Swamp Thing and Animal Man for the last ten months, no way it's a coincidence.

I don't know--I hope it's not a direct, one-to-one correlation. It would make things less unique. Besides, despite the flame being green, it seems so far that it's more like the White Light in the Emotional Spectrum--it literally represents life.

Good call. I don't really know my JSA people.

Amen. That's what I'm saying.
