Not to steal Chad's thunder, but this place is dead. We need to Black-Ring this place! So let's talk about the latest round of solicits, because...well, I was just looking at the latest round of solicits. I'm gonna skip the obvious stuff, because it's obvious. Yes yes, GL and GLC and GLNG and RLs and the Annual...but there's some other GL stuff coming out that may not hit on peoples' radar.

Justice League International is ending with #12. I'm not getting that. What I am getting is Justice League International Annual #1 that comes out AFTER the final issue of the series. On the surface, it's an issue with Guy Gardner in it that's written by Geoff Johns (not to mention the biggest thing this book had working against it was the writer, so I'm all for seeing Johns write this team in general for an issue). But beyond that, I'm curious as to what DC is replacing this book with. Between the placement of the Annual, and the end of Justice League #8, there's some new JL team book coming, and that interests me, ESPECIALLY considering that they decided to change it up seemingly out of nowhere (there are lower-selling books that are still continuing).

Speaking of Annuals, I was going to skip over the Superman Annual #1 completely, and then I read the words "Can even the help of a mysterious new GREEN LANTERN overcome the might of an alien empire?" Plus, the cover is drawn by Tyler Kirkham (and that BATT they taught to ink somehow), so Jim'll love it :p Now the interior art is going to be by so many contributers that the credits include the words "and others", but it's written by Keith Giffen, and he knows what's what.

War of the Green Lanterns is being collected in softcover trade, just in time for the NEXT War of the Green Lanterns to start :p

Green Lantern: New Guardians...the best Lantern book going...is getting its first Hardcover, collecting the first 7 issues, coming out in October.

Green Lantern: The Animated Series #5 is up for grabs as well, and you should try this out if you like the show. And if you don't like the show, I feel so very, very sorry for you.

So yeah, there's that then. Feel free to expand this to what you're looking forward to in August from DC in general, or all publishers in general. I'll probably go into all of that myself tomorrow or something, since this was a lot to type :p

Speaking of the GL Annual, when is that coming out? I keep worrying I'm gonna miss it.

An I the only one worried another lantern may kind of dilute the brand a bit? I ask because all through the past, I never considered that, and now with this new guy from the fcbd issue, I'm starting to wonder if we've hit this point where they're just tossing rings at folks randomly to increase sales.

So 7,201 is your breaking point? Razz

Seriously though, if you didn't feel this way about the entire Red Lanterns series when it was announced, there's no reason to feel it now about the new guy, who presumably is the dude from the Free Comicbook Day issue. Look at how much you like Jack Moore, a character they created solely because they needed a Human POV character in a series that exists solely because the Red Lanterns factor big into the cartoon, which came about through (perceived) popularity of the brand in general.

...also, "I'm starting to wonder if we've hit this point where they're just tossing rings at folks randomly to increase sales"...did you READ Blackest Night? Shocked

I've been cool with all the past stuff because it all made sense, even in advance of knowing all the story bits. Red Lanterns may have been been about creating a human POV character, but since there was no Red Lantern of Earth, it makes sense. Just like I would have no problem if they recruited a Blue or Yellow Lantern from Earth. Blackest Night? Completely made sense in the story. Maybe they will do something to change my mind, but this just seems like milking the property to bolster anything else, regardless of how much sense it makes. Especially if it's the dude from Stormwatch like we hypothesize.

I believe the book to replace Justice League International will be a Shazam book of some fashion. It'll move out of the back pages of Justice League and into it's own series.

That makes no sense at all. You're ok with them giving rings to random characters to boost sales because you can look back on it and see how it made sense for the story...so you don't like them giving a ring to a new random character to boost sales because his story hasn't been told yet, thus you don't know how it fits? What?

No, that's the opposite of what I'm saying. The red ring going to a human, that makes sense, even without reading the story it happens in. There's no Earth red lantern, so obviously they were going to fill that hole eventually. As opposed to there being a squadron of human Green Lanterns and you randomly give another one away, like they're cracker jack prizes. It doesn't make sense in advance of the story, unlike everything else I've seen before.

Here's everything we know about this new guy:

They gave a ring to somebody.

That's it. So wait and see! Hell, like you pointed out somewhere else, Earth doesn't actually have an officially sanctioned Green Lantern right now. Hal and Kyle are out, John's in the process of having the book thrown at him, and patrolling a sector isn't even Guy's job. If anything, this new guy actually makes a LOT of sense.

I thought that was Sinestro?

I don't think they've ever said, so I assumed he got his old sector back.

EDIT: Didn't the Guardians want Sinestro to round up the Sinestro Corps? Makes sense for them to put him close to their homeworld.
