Quick GL related notes from Bruce Timm's panel at ECCC

So there really wasn't anything directly GL related at Emerald City Comic Con. But Bruce Timm got a one hour panel all to himself, which he rolled into with no moderator and no planned remarks, and just opened it to questions for the full hour, which was pretty awesome. I asked him about GL:TAS and got the following items of note
-Initially, Timm was not thrilled with the show being CGI. That came from Sam Register, head of WB Animation. The substantial cost increase was justified by GL being high profile in connection to last summer's movie (whoops).
-Timm has never worked on a CG show before, but is now very happy with how it's turned out. He thinks the overall quality of the animation is superior to other shows that he's seen but declined to name (Though as most of you guys know, they're using the same animation studio that does Star Wars: The Clone Wars)
-The underperformance of the movie MAY have an impact on the outlook for season 2, but he declined to go into details as its a pretty complex situation at this point (I think the final decision will tie into the cartoons merchandising and ratings, which leads into...)
-The show is performing very well in terms of ratings. Last week's episode actually increased over the week before that, and it's been strong overall.
-When asked if any other DC characters would show up on the show (besides GLs), he cryptically answered "Yes, but not the ones you think." I take this as more aliens being "transplanted" to Frontier space, like we've seen with Betrassus and likely the Thanagarians we saw in preview footage
-When asked about his favorites of the direct to dvd DC animated films, First Flight and Emerald Knights were absent from his immediate list (Batman: Year One, All Star Superman, Crisis on Two Earths, Wonder Woman, Under the Red Hood).

Also, colorist Nei Ruffino was there. I mentioned the podcast to her, since you guys have been interviewing a lot of creators recently. She gave me a card, so if you guys are interested in reaching out, just let me know who to give the info too.

So it looks like the cartoon will have to stand on its own. Timm's comments, plus the level of quality I've seen, tell me that this show has the potential to do it...though so did the new Thundercats, which shared similar levels of early success, and that show seems to be getting canceled somewhere between its first and second season.

I love our telepathic listeners. We JUST recorded an episode that ended with a short conversation about how it'd be cool to eventually get her on. Email the details over to lanterncast@gmail.com

Nice! Well I'm a little behind on episodes, but least I heard you guys were pronouncing her name "Nay." Well guess what? She pulled an "Ivan Reis" situation on us. Turns out the correct way to say it is "Nee-eye." Good news for you guys I got to bite the bullet on that one at the Con so you don't have to... but I'm sure it happens all the time.
For everybody's use, her web page:

And her deviantart gallery:

And it looks like she really has worked on literally EVERY modern GL book at one time or another. GL, GLC, Emerald Warriors, New Guardians, Blackest Night, you name it.

Green Lantern has 2 major things going for it over Thundercats, the name of Bruce Timm and the fact that Mattel will be doing the figures instead of Bandai. The Thundercat figures were abysmal.

It also doesn't hurt that there's a nationwide promotion going on at McDonald's this month for the show.

Thundertank was pretty cool, and the larger costume sword was neat, but the overall quality of the line, as well as the horrible collectors figures from the old series were just really bad. Mezco made an 18" Lion-O figure that looked amazing. I wish they gotten the rights fore the smaller figures.
