AvX SPOILER: who should be DC's "Phoenix Five"?

View previous topic View next topic Go down  Message [Page 1 of 1]

"Avengers vs X-Men" recently gave us the surprise twist of the Phoenix Force getting split into five parts, each taking an X-Man as a host. Cyclops, Emma Frost, Colossus, Majik, and Namor. All five of them are literally gods walking the Earth, and I mean that in the most literal possible way. Not in the "Superman is so powerful he's like a God" sort of way, these people are doing things like removing birth defects from children, bringing back extinct species, making it impossible for earthquakes to happen in California, inventing clean sustainable energy for entire countries, facilitating the growth of food to feed EVERYONE, exc. Sure, it'll all go HORRIBLY wrong, but it begs the question...what if the same thing happened in DC? The Phoenix splits, five characters get it. Who would you pick, and why?

Mine:

John Stewart: This man's life is defined by the deaths he's caused, and his desire to build as a result of that. Forget the green stuff, THIS kind of power would give him the ability to balance the scales completely. John could bring back anyone and everyone who's death he'd ever had a part in. He could build up any world he wanted into his ideal of perfection and majesty. He could also have a DELIGHTFUL dose of madness when he decides he knows the perfect structure everyone's lives should follow.

Batman: His mission is impossible. Absolutely impossible. "Crime took my parents, so I'm going to get rid of crime". But with the Phoenix? Imagine the utopia[/pun] he could try to turn the cities of the world into, and the life Bruce might try to have with his children. Hell, just seeing him wrestling with the decision of weather or not to bring his parents back from the dead would be awesome.

Starman (Jack Knight): Granted, I don't even know if this guy exists anymore, but I think it'd be a nice twist of exploration, because he never even wanted to be a superhero in the first place. He actively ran away from it, and only begrudgingly took it up because of his dad. So how might he, a normal down-to-earth dude, react to Godhood?

Steve Trever: Most famous as Wonder Woman's love interest, he's currently the guy behind the scenes of the Justice League. He's their link to the UN, he leads a support team of marines that hold the line until the League can deploy, that sort of thing. He also really hates the fact that he's looked at as nothing compared to the League, and in this continuity he pines for Wonder Woman even though she broke his heart. So turn the tables, make Steve the God. How might he treat the League? The government that bossed him around? The media that trashed him over and over? The Amazon that broke his heart?

Darksied: Because the world isn't scary enough.

hmmm who would be my 5.

if we are going with making the world a better place like in AvX then i would say

Aquaman who would clean the oceans and use his ability to bring water to the desert.

I wanna say poison ivy to fix nature. However would the phoenix force keep her cool and not destroy humanity. OR give her power to destroy humanity..... we have seen examples of both in AvX especially with Majik.

Follow up with Constantine who would be the ruler of magic.

Resurrection Man. After all he is a phoenix himself.

I dont know a 5th one so lets say hawkman its not like he can get any worse as a comic Smile

Eh, the whole idea doesn't really draw me in, because the DCU already had Kyle Rayner as Ion, but I'll play along.

Buddy Baker (Animal Man) - This one seemed a given to me, building on what is currently happening in the book, which built on some of the late DC/early Vertigo issues from the previous Animal Man run. Heavy protection of the animal kingdom.

And, if I'm gonna have Animal Man, I kinda gotta go with...

Swamp Thing - Nature/environmental protector. If it hadn't been him, I was goint Ra's Al Ghul.

Animal Kingdom, Nature, what about man?

Pieter Cross (Doctor Mid-Nite) - This one is another "don't know if he even still exists," but I gotta go with him. Arguably, the greatest surgeon in the old DCU. He was always "Doctor" first, and "Superhero" second.

Three down, two to go...

Arthur Curry (Aquaman) - Same reasoning as Arduousandy. Protecting 75% of the Earth.

Lastly...

Will Magnus - I wanted a science guy, supremely heavy on intelligence, and almost went with Michael Holt (Mr. Terrific). Will Magnus won out because he has essentially created "life" already, and this would seem a foundation for something using the power of the Phoenix.

Don't forget the Earth 2 version of Alan Scott to be politically correct.

I actually thought of Animal Man too, but couldn't pass up the chance to put Darksied in there.

First would be Kyle Rayner. If anything, I think the Phoenix Force would sense Kyle's propensity to carry great power. Give it to him and the first thing he does is go over to the Guardians and say "I gave you a second chance at life, I have you the gift of being children all over again, and you squandered that chance. It's time for more drastic actions." And then he proceeds to de-evolve the Guardians, turning them back into Maltusians. He then takes it upon himself to play the role of Guardian for the whole corp. Oh, and he brings back Mogo, lol.

Next up, give it to Martian Manhunter. He revives his planet and takes up permanent residence there. Earth had a new ally in intergalactic battles now.

Shazam or whoever for the next 2. Whatever. The next big one would be Lex Luthor. That would be awesome. See if he actually does good or evil with the power. But come on, you know the first thing he will do is try to take out Superman. And that would be awesome. Let Lex play around a bit, kicking Supe's ass for a while. And just before he gets serious about killing him, Kyle, the lone Guardian sends Ion to reinforce Superman, which now puts him and Lex on equal footing. The following battle destroys the universe and rebuilds it again. When it's all over, Lex and Superman have both lost all their powers. Superman realizes he is now mortal, as does Lex. Lex goes over to help him up. The two walk off as brothers and rebuild Metropolis as equals.
